Research skills tuition
'Unlocking the Vault' was Peter Foden's training course for local historians in Newark upon Trent preparing for their HLF project Newark Hidden Heritage in 2015. He regularly shares his skills with Master's Degree students of the Department for Information Studies at UCL. He has also taught early modern palaeography to MA students in the Department of English Local History at the University of Leicester and at University of Keele Latin and Palaeography Summer Schools.
He has recently provided tuition in nineteenth century English palaeography to translators working for the National Archives and Records Authority of the Sultanate of Oman. A Heritage Lottery Fund grant allowed the Norton Community Archaeology Group to hire him for lectures and workshops in which their members learned some of the intricacies of mediaeval manorial court rolls and their translation and use.
A local history group in Lambley, Nottinghamshire, also used part of an HLF grant to run a series of classes studying fifteenth century account rolls, producing clear evidence for a moated manor house complex and the development of a nucleated settlement.
Peter is now available for hire as a private tutor in Latin or Palaeography for individuals or groups of students. Courses providing essential background for your research or archive work can also be given.
